Gemina: Echoes of Identity Across Borders, when Monferrato meets Armenia in the grammar of memory
Bari Connessa
From Bari, the pen of Carlo Coppola reads Gemina as an encounter between two lands that recognize each other in the “grammar of memory.”
Carlo Coppola’s article proposes a cultural reading of the documentary by Alessio Mattia, produced by SiAmo il Monferrato with Fondazione Time2, Hayeli, and Nork Group, interpreting the meeting between Monferrato and Armenia as a mutual recognition between kindred lands. The author focuses on the Latin root of the title, Gemina, which evokes duality and reflection, the cornerstone of the entire project. Ample space is dedicated to the words of Artak Khulyan, communication manager of Nork Group, for whom the film “is, first and foremost, an act of cultural recognition.” The documentary’s protagonists are mentioned, from Tsitoghdzyan to Hamasyan, from Ohanyan to Nespolo, along with anthropologists Grimaldi and Scalfari. The piece also highlights the project’s commitment to inclusion, with four young people from Turin with disabilities or social vulnerabilities involved in the production thanks to Fondazione Time2, and the screening schedule between the Anteo in Milan, during Design Week, and the Turin stop on May 14.
