The documentary exploring the connection between Monferrato and Armenia arrives in Toronto
Gazzetta d’Asti – 22/06/2026
La Gazzetta d’Asti dedicates extensive coverage to the selection of “Gemina – Echoes of Identity Across Borders” at the Toronto Arts & Entertainment Film Festival: the documentary born in Monferrato crosses the ocean and brings the territory to the international stage.
The Asti newspaper chronicles the journey of the documentary produced by SiAmo il Monferrato and directed by Asti-based videomaker Alessio Mattia, which after premieres at the Anteo cinema in Milan and the Armida rowing club in Turin has arrived at the Canadian festival. The film weaves together Monferrato and Armenia through themes of diaspora, spirituality, religious architecture, wine, and art, thanks to 24 interviews conducted in four languages across Italy, Armenia, and France, featuring voices such as Tigran Tsitoghdzyan, Ugo Nespolo, and Tigran Hamasyan. The article also highlights the inclusive spirit of the project: four young people with disabilities, trained in audiovisual arts with the Time2 Foundation, actively participated in conducting the interviews. Gemina is in fact a three-year cultural twinning program that, following Armenia in 2025, will continue with Romania in 2026 and Japan in 2027. The article also reports on the delegation’s mission to Toronto for the awards ceremony on June 28 and for a series of institutional meetings with the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada, the Consulate General, and the Italian Cultural Institute. For President Simona Paniati, the trip represents “a strategic moment for developing the territory’s international relations.”
